Having just had a full solar eclipse in Leo two weeks ago, today we have a partial lunar eclipse in Aquarius. Eclipses always come in twos: first a solar eclipse, followed by a lunar eclipse two weeks later. We get a pair of eclipses every six months. They’re said to be like wormholes, fast-tracking events and situations in our lives that are ready for culmination. During a lunar eclipse Sun and Moon are opposite each other.
This lunar eclipse resonates with us taking a real and honest look at our shadows (chart-ruler Saturn in the 8th house), and cleaning it up (8th house Virgo) so that we can engage with ourselves, each other, and the world at large in a more altruistic and compassionate way (Moon conjunct Neptune in Aquarius). If we’re still clinging to old ego patterns that have outworn their usefulness (8th House Sun conjunct South Node), then this eclipse will help to break up that pattern. We’re ripe for change and are willing to explore the deeper mysteries of life to foster spiritual growth (8th House Saturn, Mercury, Venus trine Jupiter). Whatever has been simmering just beneath our awareness will likely erupt into our higher consciousness, encouraging a detailed plan of action (12th House Pluto square 9th House Mars).
In Toronto and New York the eclipse is happening along the financial axis (2nd & 8th Houses), so it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the stock markets and banking industry. 2nd House Moon in Aquarius feels secure about sharing resources for the greater good of humanity. However, 8th House Sun in Leo proudly declares, “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine.” I think of how this dichotomy plays out fictionally, as in Robin Hood (Aquarius energy) stealing from the rich to give to the poor – versus societally, as in Government (Leo energy) stealing from the poor to give more to the rich. I’m painting in broad strokes, of course, but these opposing mind-sets play “heads or tails” on the same coin.
For a glimpse into how this eclipse may affect you personally, you’ll need to see where it falls in your chart. Find 24 degrees Aquarius and 24 degrees Leo (directly opposite each other). Which houses do these zodiac degrees fall in? Very briefly, here are the meanings of each of the 12 houses:
1st House: pertains to self, projected mask, sometimes health
2nd House: pertains to income and inner resources
3rd House: pertains to communication style, early education, neighbourhood, siblings
4th House: pertains to home/family of origin and current home/family
5th House: pertains to creativity, love affairs, joy, children
6th House: pertains to daily routine, apprenticeship, health
7th House: pertains to marital & business partnerships, contractual agreements
8th House: pertains to shared financial resources, sex, deep transformation
9th House: pertains to higher education, travel, philosophical/religious/spiritual ideals
10th House: pertains to career, public reputation
11th House: pertains to friends, large groups
12th House: pertains to the unconscious, dreams, imagination, retreat
For the purposes of this eclipse, your Leo house tells a tale of old ego dramas that need to be swept away to promote healthier ways of ego expression. Your Aquarius house shows where something new is occurring, where you reach to share your unique gifts and skills with others.
Namaste.
