The human heart's two chambers serve as a material reminder of the dual nature of our Earth-bound existence. Yet a New Moon in Leo - which rules the heart - brings us into unity with ourselves and with Source, if we will honour the creativity that beats within.

A New Moon occurs each month when the Moon moves into the same position of the zodiac as the Sun. You can think of the Sun and Moon as lovers at this time, for they are indeed uniting. The Sun represents the yang or active forces of nature, while the Moon symbolizes the yin or receptive energy. When we have a New Moon, it’s the most beneficial time to meditate on what you wish to manifest in the coming two weeks (or several months) down the road. If you really want to work in harmony with the planetary cycles, then it helps to also consider the zodiac sign that the New Moon is occurring in.

In this case, with the New Moon happening in the sign of Leo, you would do well to focus on manifesting through the Leo paradigm. Key phrases for Leo are: creative expression, coming from a place of Love, letting the heart lead you, expressing and receiving joy. Ask yourself how you can shine your Light and your Love on yourself and others, and see how your inner guide responds. Even doing a short and focused meditation in which you visualize sending waves of divine Light to yourself and loved ones can open up greater space within to receive more of Life’s goodness.

This New Moon is receiving two quincunxes, one each from Chiron-Neptune and Pluto. A quincunx is a planetary alignment of 150 degrees apart, and it symbolizes the need to adjust as you go along. For practical purposes, you need to get more comfortable with employing your heart (Sun and Moon, as well as Venus in Leo), your intuition and compassion (Chiron & Neptune in Pisces), as well as your determination to allow the situations in your life to contribute to your evolution (Pluto in Capricorn). Working within such a framework can help prevent you from taking the less beneficial path of getting somewhat ruthless (Pluto) about maintaining the props of your ego (Leo) and fooling yourself (Neptune) into believing that yours is the only way to do things.

The Leo New Moon is also in a 90-degree alignment (called a square aspect) with planet Jupiter in the sign of Taurus. Because Leo and Taurus are fixed in nature, it’s too tempting to get stuck or fixated on grandiose (Jupiter) schemes that serve you and you alone (Leo), or to inflate (Jupiter) your sense of self-worth (Leo) to the exclusion of others. Rather than resort to the shadow side, it may be more fun and beneficial to give yourself a creative task that helps you explore whatever issues are currently in your face. That way you can send some Love (Leo) to whatever needs fixing. If you make a choice to go that route, the New Moon’s trine to Uranus allows you to free yourself from old and useless patterns.

Everyone is a creative engineer in their own way. Whether you’re an artist, performer, mechanic, accountant, teacher, preacher, caretaker….the list goes on ad infinitum. This New Moon in Leo is a call to re-connect with the divine spark from which you originate, through the simple and innocent act of play. When you delight in what you’re doing at the moment you reunite with yourself, and light a pathway that gives others permission to do the same. And ultimately, we all want back into the Garden, do we not?
