A Full Moon represents the manifestation point in the lunar phase. Sitting 180 degrees across from the Sun, the Moon reflects the solar light and illuminates whatever has been kept from us, and whatever we’ve managed to hide from ourselves. No wonder emotions hit fever pitch at a Full Moon. This might be seen as the manifestation of emotional feedback. You may also experience manifestation in more tangible or ‘earthly’ terms, such as career or relationship matters. Either way, you’re getting the answer to a question, or feedback on an idea, or possibly the fulfillment of a seed that was planted at the start of the lunar cycle (known as the New Moon). Manifestation, feedback and culmination (or fulfillment) are different ways of revealing to you what you’ve been consciously and unconsciously giving energy to. And we tend to get that feedback from outside ourselves.
This particular Full Moon falls in the zodiac sign of Aquarius, bringing the energy of this sign – along with its complimentary sign, Leo – to the forefront. Leo, as represented by the king of the jungle – the Lion – is a sign that resonates with royalty. Aquarius, its polar opposite is attuned to democracy. Its representative is the Water Bearer, pouring its enlightenment out for all to receive. That’s a picture of how this Full Moon plays out in the world at large. In terms of your own personal experience, this Aquarius Full Moon raises the flag of awareness that it’s ‘me versus them.’ And, as we’ve seen in various counties around the world, when enough people gather together with the mentality of ‘us versus them’ great conflict erupts between the powers that be (Leo) and the ordinary citizen (Aquarius).
At the same time, we stand at a critical time in history when people in droves are shifting away from the mindset that everything must be polarized. Duality is slowly but surely giving way to unity consciousness. It’s not an easy process, as much as we want to believe in the coming Age of Aquarius. Surrendering false dichotomies means that you have to accept and embrace paradoxes – that two inherently opposite ideas are really just two ways of expressing the One idea. Any opposition, planetary or otherwise, finds resolution by moving your awareness into the middle, rather than identifying exclusively with one polarity or side of the equation. In this sense you start to get an idea that if ‘I am special’ (Leo awareness) then it likely follows that so is everyone else (Aquarian awareness).
There’s a lovely story unfolding amidst the ugly backdrop of cities on fire and violent eruptions. Leo, after all, is ruled by the Sun. In this story, we could say that the Sun stands in as the King of Creation. But notice that this particular King doesn’t withhold his life-giving vitality to a select group of elites; this King shines his light of creation on all of us, no matter whom or where we are. This figure of royalty differs markedly from earthly monarchs who hold vast amounts of wealth that technically belong to the entire kingdom, The People.
The People, in this unfolding story are represented by the Moon in Aquarius; call her the Queen of Humanity. So we have a King of Creation sitting at one end of the table, looking directly at his Queen of Humanity. Although they are opposite each other, they are not in conflict; each of them holds each of us as sacred. The choice has been given to us to adopt the same vision as these cosmic parents. Of course, the choice has also been given to us to separate ourselves from others, even to elevate ourselves above others, thereby perpetuating the existing model of dualistic thinking.
If you’re reaching into the new worldview of Oneness, there are all sorts of creative ways to get off this perpetual seesaw. Identify yourself as the multidimensional being of Light that you are. Masters have come in many forms to remind us of what they have re-called: our inherent divinity. This is your Leo component. All of us are part Leo, whether you were born under this sign or not. And Leo energy is highly creative, being ruled by the King of Creation, our Sun. Everything you do is an act of creation. This isn’t just mysticism, it’s science and logic. Every act begets another act. Begetting is creating, y’all. So if you’re not yet in love with what you’re begetting (read: manifesting), then turn your energy towards something that actually lights you up. Being creative is not exclusively about celebrity; the light of fame is ephemeral. Your true gifts are eternal, born as they are from the one solar flame. Own your creative spark.
And then share it. This is how you bring in your Aquarius side. Remembering that the Sun doesn’t hoard its light, neither need you. If you’re looking to find integration (notice how closely connected that word is to ‘integrity’) of your dual Leo and Aquarius sides, then warm others with your flame. Shine your solar light into the collective. (If you’re confused about how you can do that, then may I recommend you speak with an astrologer for an objective viewpoint of your innate talents.) Now is the time to move beyond the lessons we’re receiving in self-love (as symbolized by Sun, Mercury retrograde and Venus in Leo) and to pour out that love unto others (as symbolized by Moon, Earth and Neptune retrograde in Aquarius). Take your vitality (Leo) and express it in joyful and harmonious ways so that all (Aquarius) may feel your warmth and love. The Aquarius Moon is in a loving vibration with Saturn, which stabilizes relationships and grounds them in authentic ways. What a lovely way for your gift to come back to you.
Still, even for those who strive for spiritual solutions to human problems, emotional eruptions are possible, with the potential to be quite explosive. This is where Mars enters the story. If you’re in touch with your anger, you’re in touch with Mars, traveling as he is through Cancer. If so, what’s really got you angry? It may be the mounting tension of one too many blocking tactics by someone at work (Mars square Saturn, the boss); it may stem from raging against the machine that is the world at large (Mars opposite Pluto retrograde); maybe you just feel blocked by yourself (Mars square Uranus retrograde in Aries) and haven’t found a way to release your tension.
Whenever we see a buildup of tension through planetary oppositions and squares, astrologers look for a release point through harmonious planetary alignments (called trines and sextiles). In this case there are two possible ways to turn the tension from warrior Mars into a creative and safe outlet: In the first case, Mars makes a trine with Chiron retrograde in compassionate Pisces. This speaks of spiritual attunement, and an awareness of your sacred connection to All That Is. Feel it, get into it, dance with it, as if it were your sacred partner – for it is. Another outlet comes through Mars’ sextile with wise Jupiter in Taurus. Connect with your body
(Taurus) and work off the tension through physical exertion (Mars). For those of you concerned with financial stability, the opportunity is there to generate income and grow your wealth, provided you can stay in a trusting space and not be moved into fear, which this ongoing cardinal square can symbolize.
Moving out into the world at large, issues of national debt and government controls will be on the radar as the Full Moon builds. The alignment of Chiron retrograde sextile Pluto retrograde (which will be building over a long time) symbolizes the need for social safety nets. Mars’ passion can stir the social activist in you, moving you from outraged patriot into strategic action by joining forces with a group that addresses your sacred cows (Mars sextile Jupiter in Taurus the Bull – aka cow). We’ve recently seen this happen with the riots in London. That’s one use of this cosmic energy. However, if you’re reaching for integration and unity, you will find beneficial ways to channel the cosmic flow.
Meanwhile, the Sun and Moon aren’t the only planetary figures in an opposition right now. Mars in Cancer sits opposite Pluto retrograde in Capricorn. This stirs up the ‘private versus public’ dichotomy. Cancer energy (ruled by the Moon, our Queen of Humanity) is very personalized, just like Leo. And Capricorn, like Aquarius, is publically oriented. The opposition between Mars and Pluto in these signs is like a conversation in which each of them warns us not to burn through our resources, many of which are collective – such as national coffers, education systems, roadways, libraries, information systems and other such infrastructures.
See, we’re back to the story of a people who share in the wealth of their nations; we’re back to the idea of the King of Creation who shines his light on All equally, and a Queen of Humanity who nurtures our needs on a day-today basis. Each of them teaches us to then pay it forward to others. We may not see this story play out as it was originally written to play out. Not yet. But the story that your divine nature is your true birthright, and that you share that birthright with all of humanity is no fairy tale. It lives within your heart, waiting for you to not only claim the story, but to Live it.
